The War In AfghanistanIn October 2001, the US launched its military operation termed as Operation Enduring Freedom in coalition with the British armed forces, in Afghanistan. The war was America’s response to the September 11 2001 attacks in the US conducted by Al Qaeda suicide bombers. The Taliban was in power in Afghanistan and the war brought Afghanistan’s complex situation to the forefront in world politics. The initial phase of the war involved low ground presence by the allied forces, the phase was characterised by aerial attacks. By the end of November 2001, most places in Afghanistan had been brought under military control and Kandahar was coming under increasing pressure. Needless to say, Kandahar is the birthplace of the Taliban, not exactly one of the safest places to stay in Afghanistan . Kandahar was the Taliban’s last bastion, and was soon brought down by the Allied forces. The Taliban in Afghanistan began to regain confidence in 2003 and are believed to have reconstituted their forces. The war spilled into Pakistan territory in September 2003. In 2009, America stepped up their efforts by sending more troops into Afghanistan. Recently the Afghan president stated that it would be more than five years before the afghan army would be ready to take on insurgents and has also stated that the afghan army would need American support for 15 to 20 years. The war in Afghanistan still rages and stability in Afghanistan looks possible only in the distant future. | Recent ArticlesWhy The West Is Interested In AfghanistanEuro News Today: AfghanistanNatural Health Sciences in War Torn Areas Such As AfghanistanAptitude Tests and Education in AfghanistanInternational Removals Shipping Services to France from AfghanistanThe War In AfghanistanAfghanistan From A Visitors PerspectiveAfghanistans TerrainAccess to English Language Courses in AfghanistanFlights to Afghanistan for JournalistsIn Afghanistan You Cannot Even Get Some InkYou Will Never Find a Sin City in AfghanistanGo Here: AfghanistanRussell Rhodes Would Even Deliver to AfghanistanEngagement Rings From Afghanistan to her FingerAfghanistan Torches UK TroopsTravelling to Afghanistan: Some Useful TipsWooden Shutters are Irrelevant in Afghanistan |
